Cooking with MaMa...

So instead of having an actual birthday party for Jake this year we did something I had been wanting to do for awhile but hadn't actually got around to organising it....we got the cousins together and had a 'Cooking with MaMa' (Mike's mum) party.

We had a little chef party and made our own pizza's...and had spotty chocolate milk.

Now I had to add this one of Hyrum...so you know he was actually there...in the above party photos he's...well...Jake's toys - especially his star wars spaceship - just proved much more temptation than pizza! But he showed his face every now and then...

...and this is what mummy had been waiting for allllll day!
A chance to use the kitchen blowtorch...we made an icecream volcano cake for Jake...icecream in the middle, rice crispy treat next and then meringue on the outside...jake was insistant on the lava...actually running down the sides like it's supposed to - the picture only showed a little bit of sprinkled lava on the top...he said it wasn't like a real volcano...and so we did our best to accommodate his requests!!! You can't half tell he's an architects grandson....details, details, details!!!

Oh Sal, he's such a stinker (my son that is!) Mum told me he refused to wear his white T-shirt and the hat, you should have told him no food unless he conformed! Now I know too, why he's been talking about Star Wars all night, I kept thinking, when did you see Star Wars?:) The party looks so fun, I love the cake, especially the picture with you with the blow torch, you look very tough, like "look out, I've got a blow torch and I'm not afraid to use it!" Will drop round Jake's pres soon, I have it here, just been a bit distracted the last few days!

Hope it worked out well. It looks like it did and your party looks amazing!

How special! A party with Mama! The kids must have loved it and everything looks delicious! And you know it's a great party when you add flame! lol!

I made a couple Volcano cakes for my girls Birthdays too. Brownie on the bottom, then mounded up ice cream, Cool Whip covering the whole thing, chocolate sauce running down the sides, and sprinkles on top. Finished off with the long sparkler candles. It was a BIG hit with the kids! I placed it on a luau plate I found at the Party store. Fun, fun, fun!

Happy Birthday to Jake!

Only you can make cooking with kids look like a magazine layout! Looks fun... And you made an elusive cameo on the blog! Like a director sneaking into her own film. We don't see you often!

Looks fun!

I agree with AlYN's post, only YOU could made that look like a magazine. Is there anything you can't do. That cake looks amazing. That is funny that he said it didn't look like a real volcano. My son would have said the same thing. Anyway,You are AMAZING. I want to be like you when I grow up.
Do you do a layout thing in Photoshop and then post it on here? that is way too cute and I would like to steal your idea sometime.

the volcano would've looked cooler if actual flames were spewing forth, but speaking as a former pyro who (i must sadly admit) almost burned the woods down, i can understand if you decided not to ignite the thing. but still, your domesticity and awesomely clean kitchen are admirable.
